Barefoot Mission, Stockwell, London
The Barefeoot Mission, originally known as the Bible Band Barefoot Mission, was founded in 1895 by Mr Hartley Aspden, the editor of the Sunday Companion Newspaper. Its purpose to was supply London's poor ragged and barefoot children with shoes, stockings, and warm clothing for the winter. It initially occupied premises at 41 Clapham Road, Stockwell.
In 1899, the charity became part of the Ragged School Union, which later became the Shaftesbury Society, with its base at 32 John Street, Bloomsbury.
