Children's Home, Newgate Street, Hertfordshire
At the start of the twentieth century, a children's home was in operation in Newgate Street village in Hertfordshire. In 1901, the matron was Mrs S Grace Kessell and the inmates, or 'wards', comprised seven girls aged between 7 and 13 years, plus a one-year-old boy.
